Tony Isbell

Tony Isbell

Tony Isbell has been involved in theatre as an actor and director for almost 40 years, ever since a high school English teacher cast him (by default -- no one else would take the part) in the lead role in a melodramatic tearjerker called The Valiant.

After that single performance, he was instantly and forever hooked.

He has spent nearly 30 of those years acting and directing on the many stages in Memphis, Tennessee.

He has been the recipient of numerous nominations for Best Actor in the annual Memphis Theatre Ostrander Awards, having won three times for his performances in Sea Marks, Stones in His Pockets, and Play Desdemona.

He also received a Best Director award for his production of Raised in Captivity, which also received awards for Best Play and Best Actress.

In addition, his production of Pterodactyls was the state and regional winner of SETC competitions, going on to compete at the national level. He was named Best Director at the regional level.

Tony has also appeared on television, most prominently in the “Margo Freshwater” episode of America’s Most Wanted playing a very bad man.

He has also appeared in the films The Delta and Forty Shades of Blue and had a starring role as the evil alien leader “Mins” in the cult film I Was a Zombie for the FBI, which was recently re-issued on DVD to much acclaim.

The Dead Girl marks his first production with Chatterbox, and he hopes it is not his last.
